The Denver Church of Christ welcomes John and Barri Lusk on this, their first Sunday here as our Senior Minister and Women's Ministry Leader. The Lusk family arrived this week. They will be spending a couple of weeks at the Jackson's home until they are able to move into their new home on July 3rd. They, along with our entire staff and eldership, are eager to serve here in Denver and throughout Colorado with hearts devoted to God.
I love you, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield, the strength of my salvation, and my stronghold. ~Psalm 18:1 - 2 (NIV)
As we begin this part of 2009 with John and Barri serving in their new roles, let us remember the goals we pledged to at the beginning of the year....
~ Our Personal Worship
"Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit." (James 5:16-18 ESV).
God uses his power to help us in our times of weakness as well as to heal and forgive those who are not yet Christians. Prayer unleashes the power of God. We encourage every ONE to grow in their walk / relationship with God.
~ Relationships-One in Heart and Mind
"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." (John 13:34-35).
We encourage every ONE to be part of a small group-a spiritual family where love, mercy and openness are given and received by all members, and to have consistent one-on-one relationships to help us in our journey.
~ Outreach
"When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd...By this time it was late in the day, so his disciples came to him and said, "It's already very late. Send the people away so they can go and buy themselves something to eat." But Jesus answered, "You give them something to eat." (Mark 6:34-37).
We encourage every ONE to spend time loving someone outside of our fellowship each week - taking care of their kids, having coffee, having fun, sharing God's Word, etc.
~ Giving
"Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work." (2 Corinthians 9:7-8).
We encourage every ONE to give sacrificially and consistently toward our weekly contribution and to be committed to help us support missions.
