"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Isaiah 61:1-2
The Spirit of God selects each one of us at different times in our lives, whether it is to help the poor, to go to the mission field, to help our families or a myriad of other callings-it is a privilege and an honor to serve God in whatever capacity we find ourselves in. But when we are chosen, God often gives us the difficult choice of leaving family behind, stepping out into the unknown and sacrificing the comfort of our familiar surroundings.
As a leadership, we are proud and excited to announce that Chris and Kim Reed have been called by the Spirit to serve once again in the foreign mission field. They plan to serve the churches in Scandinavia and move to Sweden in February of next year. God made his will clear to them as they laid out a fleece for there to be an opening at the International school in Stockholm for their daughter, Hannah. Just this past week, they received a phone call from the school, telling them that Hannah would be able to enroll this next semester!
We are so proud of the Reeds and their heroic decision to go back out on the front line against Satan to expand God's kingdom around the world. We are also proud of the Denver Church and how it has always been a church focused on missions. We believe that God will bless and take care of a church that continues to support and encourage the hearts of our missionaries.
Here is a short excerpt from Chris and Kim Reed's message to the church:
Kim and I have had the mission work in Scandinavia on our hearts for quite some time. We were on the original mission team sent out from Boston in 1986 to plant the church in Stockholm, Sweden. We were then sent from Stockholm to plant the church in Copenhagen, Denmark. We lived in these two countries for a combined 8 years, and we are still fluent in Swedish and Danish.
Then, Kim and I were asked to move back to the states to help with the church in Philadelphia. Since that time, God has called us to help out in Baltimore, Washington DC and lastly here in Denver. We have felt blessed by God in every place. We have seen much fruit in every place. And we are convinced that God has orchestrated every move.
After much prayer, fasting and seeking the godly counsel of many disciples - especially the elders here in Denver, Kim and I have decided to move with Hannah, back to Stockholm, Sweden. Caleb and Vanessa have been part of many discussions concerning this move. They are both supportive of Kim and me living out our dreams to serve God. We have made arrangements to be able to spend significant time with them every year. And eventually we will move back to the States. We are making preliminary plans to move some time in February 2009. Although many doors have been opened by the Lord to enable this move, the door for the International School in Stockholm for Hannah opened just this past week.
This decision has been, BY FAR, the most difficult ministry decision that Kim and I have ever made. This is mostly due to the fact that we have felt more blessed by being in the Denver church family, than by any other church we've ever been a part of in the US. We have so many dear and cherished relationships here - dear because many of you have really helped to shape our lives, disciple our marriage, had a great impact on our walk with God - and been an enormous source of joy and fun. Kim and I are requesting two things: first, that you really take the Reed family before the Lord in prayer - that God would be preparing our hearts, minds and faith to really lead a great spiritual revival in Scandinavia. Pray also that God would show us how best to use our last time here in Denver to most strengthen the church here. Secondly, we are asking the church NOT to pull back in their relationships and friendship towards us. We are planning to be fully invested, heart, mind and soul, in the Denver church until we move. We really need your support and prayers at this time - and we have a lot to do and many souls to save together this Fall. We love you and are very grateful to God for each of you.
