Colorado Mountain Ministry

Many people are attracted to Colorado, and one of the main reasons is the sundry outdoor recreational activities available. Because of this, the Denver Church of Christ started a new ministry called the Colorado Mountain Ministry, or CMM.
A large percentage of the populace engage in hiking, backpacking, camping, cycling, snowshoeing, skiing, and many other forms of recreation in the mountains, foothills, and front range. Special outdoor recreational events will be planned throughout the year, and this offers a great opportunity for fellowship and making memories with friends and family!

Chasm Lake is just below the diamond face of Longs Peak, sitting at 11,850 ft elevation. The round trip hike from the trailhead (starting from the Ranger Station at 9400 ft) is 8.4 miles and between 4 to 5 hours (continuous hiking). HOWEVER, on Sunday September 5th (one day prior to Labor Day), YOU have an opportunity to do this trip backpacking!! On Sunday, we will meet at 2:30pm in the parking area by the Ranger Station. (To get there, drive on Colorado 7 from Lyons 24 miles west and look for the Longs Peak, Rocky Mt National Park sign. Parking is a short drive off of 7.)
The Battle Mountain campground is 2.5 to 3 miles from the Ranger Station along an excellent trail. The group site is right at timberline. We will be camping in Rocky Mountain National Park. (Note: pets are excluded in the Park) We'll have plenty of time to setup, hangout, cook supper, and enjoy some fellowship and the views. On Monday morning, after breakfast, we'll need to pack up and set our packs to one side to allow for another group camping on Monday night. Then on to Peacock Pool and Chasm Lake, with absolutely stunning views.
There is no fee for this trip. (Joyce and I are covering the camping permit fee for the group site.) But we do need to know who is coming and especially your license plate number. (We need to provide this info to the Backcountry Office near Estes Park when we pickup the permit.) Thus, please let us know if you are coming and your license plate number. Also, please plan to bring your own food for Sunday evening, and Monday breakfast and lunch. (Fires are not allowed, so we'll need to rely on backpacking stoves.) If you have any questions, need advice about backpacking, or need to know how to prepare for this backpack trip, please contact us. (Joyce and I have been to the campsite once before - it's worth the trip!!)
If you cannot make the backpack but still want to do the hike, please join us on Labor Day. (Allow about 1 1/2 to 2 hours to reach Battle Mountain campground from the trailhead.)
Don't forget to bring your cameras!! We look forward to hearing from many of you in the next few days.
