From "Me" to "We"
Marriage is a partnership. However, it is often practiced as two individuals pursuing their own agendas: two people who happen to live in the same house, while sharing some overlapping goals and principles. A marriage described like this is bound for unmet expectations, misunderstandings and constant friction.
In marriage, we are supposed to leave behind the “me” and fully put on the “we”. Every decision, every spoken word, and every intention has to be understood in the context of a relationship. The foundation of this relationship is to be built on the practice of putting the other person's needs above your own. This way of thinking is not common to people who live in an “individualistic” society. Within our society, the idea of considering even just one person ahead of yourself challenges our spirit of independence and freedom. And yet, this transition from "me to we"is the Biblical key to a long-lasting and fulfilling marriage.
