One of the lowest moments in the history of Israel – they have been invaded by the Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians and finally the Romans…centuries of hopelessness and dismay…until there is a birth in Bethlehem.
That child would be called Immanuel or ‘God with us’! (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:22-23).
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)
The word that is used to describe Jesus wanting to dwell with His people is the same as in Exodus 25:8 (tabernacled).
The Book of John was written a few decades after the Cross. Yet John’s recollection of walking with God (Jesus), all that he said was still so clear. When it came time for him to leave this earth, He promises that he would never leave them as orphans, the Holy Spirit will guide them (John 14:15 – 18). Finally, he assures them that he would be with us to the end of the age (Matthew 28:18 – 20).
He experienced life, just like us
He may have experienced the taunts and jokes of other kids
He experienced joy, sorrow, laughter, tears, physical pain, separation, betrayal – just like us
What more could we ask from Someone who wants to be with us?
I won’t ask you for reasons
‘Cause a reason can’t wipe away tears
No I don’t need all the answers
Just be here beside me
Father remind me you’re here
