After becoming a follower of Jesus in Oklahoma in '86, Matt has served Him in 4 countries, 6 states and a host of cities. For reasons unknown, Matt loves the NY Mets, the Boston Celtics & the Oklahoma Sooners. Matt & his bride, Sandy, landed in Denver almost 2 years ago. They have 2 grown children & love strong coffee, hanging with fun & spiritual people, & exploring the four corners of the globe whenever they can!
Mondays with Matt: Chillin’ in the Garden
Many of us have either studied or heard the Seeking God study at some point in our Christian walk. Over the years, I came to this incredible realization that the Bible is rife with God seeking us. Us? Why are we important to him? As I delved more and more, I saw the theme across the Bible. Over the next few weeks, I want to share some of my thoughts and emotions about God seeking us, on this blog.
The Bible starts out with the Creation story and God deems his creation to be good…except when it comes to man, he calls it “very good”! (Genesis 1:31). Why wouldn’t he? After all, weren’t we created in His image (Genesis 1:26)? But check out this verse from Chapter 3:
Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day (Genesis 3:8). Consider this:
God came to the garden to spend time with them.
Did they hold hands?
Did they talk about their day?
Did they share a good laugh?
Did they share what they felt?
Is this how we view God?
Does God want to connect, share, laugh with us?
For many years as a Christian, I struggled to connect with God.
Connections were…let’s say, more duty bound. I found out later that I had many misconceptions about God (some of which I will talk about, later), which really kept me from being closer to Him. As I worked through them, I found myself connecting on an emotional level.
A song, ‘God Walks with Us’ from 2005 has these lines….
Walk with me please
Let me see where your heart's coming from
So let me see
Is this for real
Or let it be?
Yes, it is for real…….
