Women's Midweek - The Identity of Jesus

Meegan Zillman • January 26, 2022

Jesus understood the importance of His identity. He knew who He was. He fought hard and was intentional about striving to understand what His identity was. He worked out of that identity and didn't work out of his reputation.

We live in an era that reverses that. Our reputation is often what we allow to identify us. We are taught to find our identity in sexuality, success, family status, career, wealth, etc., etc., etc.  However, Jesus dove deeply and consistently into God’s word to find His identity.

Where do you go to receive your identity? How much effort do you spend seeking your identity from a Godly perspective? How much consistency do you put into that search? Do you allow the word to define you? On the contrary, how much do you work on your reputation? How much emphasis do you put on being who you feel you “should” be?

After watching Meegan's video, here are some questions you may choose to reflect on, by yourself or within a small group!

  1. Why does it matter that Jesus was so intentional about knowing His identity?
  2. What are the scriptures for you that help you understand your identity in Christ?
(If you don't have scriptures in mind, we have included a list below. Take your time to read through this list and see which ones may resonate with you. Hold these close to your heart as you seek to find your identity in Christ).
  3. What ways are you actively working to understand your identity in Christ? On the other hand, what ways do you work to cultivate your reputation?
