After reading through a couple of chapters of Mark today, this idea of being in fear and amazement of Jesus came to mind. How my fear and amazement of Jesus should translate to my personal faith. Needless to say it prompted a lot of questions. When you really look at Jesus:
- What do you see?
- What do you feel?
- Do you have a sense of fear?
- Do you have a sense of amazement?
- Is it a combination of both?
The gospels are full of story after story of people seeing Jesus perform miracle after miracle being left with fear (Mark 5:36), amazement (Mark 5:20) and even confusion (Mark 6:4). I guess if I personally saw or heard of Jesus exercising demons, healing the lame, making the blind see and raising folks from the dead, I would be left with a mixture of amazement and if I'm honest, a little bit of fear as well.
The question I have for us all is whether or not what you learn about Jesus motivates you to seek him?
Does it give you the strength to change and repent of your sin?
Does it serve to increase your faith in Jesus even more? Or do you doubt Jesus like the people in his hometown?
Maybe it doesn't jumpstart your faith like it use to. What stops you from really believing in Jesus, really? What stops you today from being like the bleeding woman who thought to herself that if she could just touch a piece of Jesus clothing, she would be healed (Mark 5:25-29)? Are you willing to strain towards Jesus with an anticipation of healing and peace? What does that "strain" look like for you personally? Will you allow the holy scriptures to build your faith or will you allow your fear of change stop you from experiencing the joys of Jesus?
My prayer of us all is to live a life of reverence towards our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. God bless!
